Snakes in a Dream I

Michael Aisling runs one of the better websites about dream interpretation. His work on dream symbols and the body is the most extensive on the web.

However, I think he is way off on his stock interpretation of snakes (in the yellow box below) that they usually represent cancer. This is one of the dangers giving particular symbols a fixed meaning. If everyone who dreams of snakes starts getting anxious about having cancer, there will be a significant increase of anxiety in the world. If you type in “snakes” in the search box at the top left of the page, you will find other ideas about the meaning of snakes in dreams and in myth.

From Aisling Dream Dictionary A-Z

Snakes in their most common usage in dreams, assuming you do not work with them in reality, represent a threat of cancer. This is because snakes eat living organisms, camouflaging or hiding themselves and striking unawares. A single dream or a few in a row are nothing to worry about. If, however, you consistently dream of snakes go to your doctor for a check-up. Where the snakes are located and other symbols in the dream give clues about where the cancer will manifest if left to its own devices. For example, the kitchen represents the digestive system; the fridge or cooker indicates the stomach; the bathroom or waste pipe indicates the colon or bowel; a frying pan indicates the pancreas; vacuum cleaner, air ducts, ventilation system or a coffee table indicates the lungs.

Snakes can indicate that you have a counseling ability. In these dreams the snake is non-threatening. In the Chinese astrological system, people born under the sign of the snake are said to be wise and wisdom in dreams indicates counseling.

A snake can also indicate that you are in a bad relationship and this is how you now view your partner. (Source)
