Dreaming of a child….

This is the dream of adult woman who recently contacted me regarding repetitive night terrors she had been having:
One night late spring, while dreaming I once again felt that I was paralyzed. I made an attempt to raise my right hand to cross myself, and again, I failed. Next I felt I’d opened my eyes….I saw a child’s face with lovely golden curls on his head. The face was right above me, looking at me intently. There was curiosity rather than hostility in his look. I was scared and my first impulse was to cry out. But exactly at that moment the child put a finger to his lips as if saying “shhhh” to me. After which the vision disappeared.
Later, she came across this image, which is strikingly similar to the dream:

Carl Jung hypothesized the existence of archetypes:
Our personal psychology is just a thin skin, a ripple on the ocean of collective psychology. The powerful factor, the factor which changes our whole life, which changes the surface of our known world, which makes history, is collective psychology, and collective psychology moves according to laws entirely different from those of our consciousness. The archetypes are the great decisive forces, they bring about the real events, and not our personal reasoning and practical intellect. .... The archetypal images decide the fate of man. (CW 18; 371)
