To dream of earthquakes…

Continuing along the lines of dreams involving archetypal elements of nature — these are some interpretations from the Internet about Earthquakes.

I was puzzled by the suggested interpretation of earthquakes that said “conflict with your mother” (How did they jump to that?) when I read the entry before, which connected “Earth” with “Mother”… The Internet can certainly provoke associations that one wouldn’t necessarily think about…

Unlike some of the other dreams about natural disasters, earthquakes usually symbolize parts of the dreamer’s physical reality rather than his emotional life. The earthquake in the dream may be representing financial difficulties, health issues, or any number of other problems that could occur in daily life. An experience that is “shaking” you up, and changing your daily life, could be creeping into your dream state and showing up as an earthquake.
The Portable Dream Dictionary

Earthquake dreams suggests great anxiety. But it is often dreamt when enormous personal changes are occurring, perhaps brought on by slow gathering change that suddenly pushes into consciousness.

(Tony Crisp’s website is one of the best ones for thoughtful dream interpretation — note here the idea that the dream symbolism of earthquakes can also be about personal changes and consciousness)

> Earth – Mother Earth which could signify your real mother; your unconscious; your true self (spiritual); your intuitive self; contrasted with the sky, it may symbolize keeping your feet firmly planted on the ground.

Earthquake – falling apart; conflict with your mother (is your mother in the dream?); a sudden change in your daily life (something is upsetting your life).
